Breeze Meditation App

When I first conceptualized Breeze for my Visual Design II final project, I wanted to create a meditation app that stood out in a crowded market. I envisioned a platform that not only provided guided meditations but also helped users track their progress and build a consistent practice. The initial design focused on functionality, with minimal attention to user flow and visual cohesion.

Initial Concept

After nearly two years of design studies and practical experience, I returned to Breeze as part of my capstone class. Armed with new knowledge of UI principles and user-centered design, I saw an opportunity to transform what was a functional but basic app into something truly exceptional.

Redesign

I conducted three simple but effective user research interviews, and I discovered a few pain points:

  • "The app's color scheme is too stimulating - I need something more calming before meditation"

  • "The text was hard to read against the background, especially if I wasn’t wearing my glasses"

  • “It feels too cluttered, and the illustrations are very generic”

The revised Breeze app features a more intuitive home feed that displays personalized meditation recommendations, more prominently placed check-in buttons that are clearer to understand, and an added queue system highlighted on the meditation screen. The visual language is cohesive, with a more calming color palette, complete logo and typography redesign, and thoughtful spacing that embodies the tranquility the app aims to foster.

This project demonstrated how fundamental UI principles, when properly applied, can transform a functional product into an exceptional one. The simple UX research I conducted provided invaluable insights that shaped my design decisions. By returning to this project after gaining more knowledge, I was able to create a meditation app that not only meets users' needs but does so in a way that feels intuitive and delightful.
